Driggs Avenue

In the original Williamsburgh Street grid, Driggs Avenue was Fifth Street, running from Division Avenue to the Williamsburgh/Greenpoint line. By 1879, Fifth Street extended as far north as Leonard Street in Greenpoint. North of Leonard Street the street continued to Meeker Avenue as Van Cott Street.

Calyer Street

Calyer Street in Greenpoint was laid out in 1852. The street was named after Jacobus Calyer (died 1804 or 1766). The Calyer were one of five families who owned and farmed most of Greenpoint in the 18th and early 19th century. According to the Greenpoint Historic District designation report, Calyer Street ran through the northern section of the former Calyer farm. The Calyer farm, constituting about 65 acres, was located in this area until 1848.

Lorimer Street

Lorimer Street runs north/south through East Williamsburg (the former 16th Ward) from Broadway to Driggs Avenue. North of Driggs, the street continues to the northwest, terminating at Noble Street. South of Broadway, the street continues to the southwest; this section of Lorimer Street was renamed from _____ Street. The original section of Lorimer Street through East Williamsburg was mapped as part of the expansion of the Village of Williamsburgh east of Union Avenue in 1835.

Madison Street

Madison Street north of Broadway was originally called Ivy Street. The street was renamed Madison Street in the 1890s, extending the existing Madison Street from Bedford-Stuyvesant northward.
